Porky Pigging It

I went to get Drew out of his bed this morning and he had removed his pants and diaper. Both were laying on the floor - he was standing up in his bed with only a shirt and a smile. Not sure how long he'd been like that - hopefully not all night long. His little bottom was freezing though, so it kind of makes me wonder. I guess we're going to have to start dressing him in only zipper/snap jammies - that is until he figures out how to work zippers. Then I don't know what we'll do!

No more pee pee in the potty

Well, I got home from work on Friday and the kids came running over to give me hugs as usual. I told Corry I was so proud of her and that we would go get ice cream for her being such a big girl. She wanted nothing to do with it and didn't even want to mention her big day.....she did a complete 180 on us. All weekend long if I mentioned anything about going pee pee on the potty she would just ignore me or change the subject. I really don't want the frustration of potty training someone who isn't quite ready, so I'm going to keep asking her if she wants to use the potty, and if she does, great - if she doesn't I'm not going to push it. Hopefully she'll come around soon and think its a good idea. If she doesn't, I'll chat with her ped. at her 3 year appt.

Drew had a pretty good weekend - he was happy most of the time, but he's started to become very opinionated. All he wanted to watch all weekend were the Corry & Drew movies Aunt Deachi created for their birthdays. If we tried to turn on anything else he would wig out.

Grandma Connie & Grandpa Jack got home from Hawaii so we got to see them for a little bit last night. They brought the kids some really cute Hawaiian outfits.

Went to dinner at Mom & Dad's last night and got to see a lot of the pictures from the wedding. There are tons of them!

Well, I think I hear a little lady getting up. I'll post more on the potty training as we have progress!

Pee Pee in the Potty!!!!

Yea! Corry went pee pee in the potty this morning - she called me at work to tell me the good news. Mom said she was soooo excited and running around the living room, going in circles, naked. We get to go out for ice cream tonight!

Maybe it was just a fluke, but I needed to get this day recorded as the first day towards progress in reducing the diaper wearing Dautrich's by 50%

Potty Training :(

Every morning for the last several weeks Corry has woken up completely dry, so I know that now would be a good time to reintroduce potty training, but we've been so busy for the last month with the wedding and Max's arrival that I haven't had the time I need to focus on it. Well yesterday morning when she got up I explained to her that she was almost 3 years old and she was a big girl now, so it was time to start going pee pee and poo poo on the potty. She surprised me with an "okay!"

I took her in and sat her on her potty and we visited for awhile. She finally asked me "Mommy, how do you make the pee pees come out?" How do you answer that question? I have no idea how to explain that. Drew woke up while she was still on the potty, so I went up to get him and she wanted to stay on the potty. When I came back down she started tooting and said "Here comes a big poop for the potty!" I was so excited because I thought she was actually going to go - but nothing.....

She got off the potty and wanted to wear her big girl Dora panties. I explained to her that she could wear them, but if she needed to pee pee or poo poo she had to let either me or Grandma Chebs know so that she could go in the potty. She agreed. She ate her breakfast and started playing. I kept asking her every 10 minutes or so if she needed to go potty and she kept saying no. Then all of a sudden she looked up at me and said "Nope, not yet Mommy - I don't need to pee pee." I figured she did need to go, but she didn't want to stop playing. So I was wiping Drew's nose and started to go over and get her to sit her on the potty and she said "Mommy - I pee peed in my Dora panties!"

Why can't this just be easy?????

Snots and Coughing

Both kids have had "the snots" as Corry and Calyn call it, since the weekend. When we were in the hospital Calyn looked at Corry at one point and said "Yew, you have the snots!" It was hilarious.

Last night Jimmy fell asleep on the couch and at about 11:15 he woke up - Corry was leaning up against a chair watching him sleep, I guess. He never could figure out why she was down there - but he took her back upstairs and put her back in bed. He did say she was coughing, so maybe that woke her up.

Drew has FINALLY figured out where his nose is - I'm giving credit to the runny nose because everytime I wipe his nose with a kleenex I tell him "Let me get your nose." He's not a fan of having his nose wiped, but at least some good has come of the cold. Now I won't have to go to his 2 year appt with him still not knowing where his nose is :) For the longest time if you ask him where his nose is he will point to his ears and say "ears!" Then cram his fingers in his eyes and say "eyes", but he'd just never get the nose part.

Corry has a new bedtime ritual - every night after Drew goes to bed Corry and I "click on Dora." She gets to have her computer time either on Noggin or Nick Jr. They have all kinds of games for all the different shows. We do that for 20 minutes or so, then upstairs to read a book and go to bed. One evening she got very interested in one of the games where you could draw & write on a notepad. So I opened up Word, let her pick a color for her name and she started typing her name. Then we changed colors for Calyn's, name, Drew's name, etc. Some names she still needs help with spelling, but she knows quite a few of them. She's even getting familiar with the keyboard and I don't have to point out where the letters are as much anymore. So, while she's not reading like that little 18 month old girl that was on all the talk shows, she's doing pretty well with her letters and spelling considering she's not even 3 yet! Now if we could just focus that quest for accomplishing a new task to pottty training.................

Max Allen Payne is here!

Max Allen Payne joined our family on April 18 at 2:25 pm weighing in at 5lbs 4oz and 19 inches long. He has quite a bit of dark brown hair. He's the tiniest thing I've ever seen and super cute! Here are some pictures of the 3 little children who were anxiously awaiting his arrival!


What a proud big cousin Corry is of little Max! When she first saw him all she kept saying over and over is "he's so cute!" She loves holding and cuddling him. Hopefully she'll keep it up and be a good helper for Grandma Chebs when Deachi goes back to work in July!

Drew's not so sure about this new guy - he loves to point at him and say "Bebe!" He'll even beep him on the nose - but I don't think he gets that this little man is going to butt in on the attention he gets from Grandma.

When Calyn first saw Max she kept saying - "I wanna hold him" over and over. Once she finally had the chance to hold him for a few minutes she told Matt "Put Max back in his bed now." I can't wait to see how she does once Max is home from the hospital and she realizes he's there to stay.

Fun while it lasted

All week when I put Corry to bed she tells me that when the sun comes up she can get out of her bed on her own and come downstairs, and she did really well with that. Last night a thunderstorm came through at 4:15 or so and it woke her up. We heard Meghan (our dog) knocking on our door. When Jimmy went to console her he found she had company - Miss Corry was right there with her. She was too scared to go back up to bed, so I told her when the thunderstorm was over she would have to go back upstairs. Of course she fell asleep and I didn't take her because I was sooooo tired. I never did go back to sleep though, so in retrospect, I should have just taken her. From now on, if she comes downstairs -right back up she's going! I really don't want her to get in the habit of getting in bed with us....she's not a good bed partner - she snores and wiggles and kicks.

Baby Max should be here in another few hours. My task today is to get all of Drew's newborn cloothes out of boxes & get them washed & hung for them. I thought I'd have a little more time to get ready - but I guess not!

Well, I hear Drew waking up - better go get him. Can't wait to post some pictures of my new nephew!

So far so good

So far Corry's doing really well with her big girl room and toddler bed. Hopefully she'll continue to sleep well in there and not start showing up in our room in the middle of the night! Her thing tonight was describing the light reflections on her walls. She was even using the word reflection. She just amazes me sometimes!

Aunt Sandi sent some fun new dress up clothes for the kids - the girls got princess clothes and Drew got a train engineer's outfit. The train outfit came with a little wrench. That was Corry's favorite thing. Jimmy had to get out a nut and bolt and show Corry how the wrench works. We seem to have a little role reversal going on in the Dautrich house. The other day I heard Drew clomping around and thought he had his stacking cups on his feet. Turns out he was wearing the pink high heel princess shoes Calyn left over here. It was actually a first for him - he's never put shoes on by himself before - too bad they are hot pink strappy heels!

Drew's vocabulary is really starting to take off too - over the last few days he started putting words together - "Daddy at Work" "Matt going?" "Corry doing?" and my favorite - "Stinky poop" Maybe there's hope for the little guy and his verbal ability.

Well, that's all the new stuff in our world so far this week. I'm sure we'll have more exciting stories as the week progresses. I'd like to get the pictures off my camera at some point, but every time I try the computer crashes. We really need a new computer, but its on a long list of other things we need! Maybe some day we'll strike it rich...until then a new computer will have to wait in line.

Big Girl Room

It's official - Corry is in her big girl room, and not in a crib anymore. I think its harder on me than it is on her, seeing her sleeping in the toddler bed. We were going to keep it a crib for a week or two and let her get used to her new room, but she insisted we leave it as a toddler bed. I figured if that would help her make the transition, then so be it! We did have to read several more stories tonight and I had to "rest on walrus" (her big stuffed animal) for a little longer than normal. I thought she had fallen asleep, so I started to sneak out....she obviously heard me and said "Wait.....I need a hug." So I gave her a hug, and told her I'd see her in the morning. She rolled over and that was it. Now I guess we'll see if she wakes up in the middle of the night and tries to come downstairs. I know she's almost 3 and it was probably past time to move her out of the crib, but it still just breaks my heart. I can't believe how quickly she's growing up. Today when we were talking about her big girl room she told me, "Now I just have to get bigger and then I'll get married." I can't imagine how badly that day will kill me when just moving her out of a crib is about to send me over the edge!

I guess I'll try to go catch some zzzzzs, I'm afraid I'm not going to sleep too well tonight!

Here's a picture of Drew & Grandma Chebs at the wedding reception......he's doing his favorite thing in the world - sucking his thumb and pulling Grandma's hair. Who needs a security blanket when you have perfectly good hair to play with???

Here's an action shot at Easter that Charlie (Matt's Dad) took of Corry playing with bubbles. She's wearing the tutu from the Easter basket that Susan (Lindsay's Mom) got her. Our babies sure do love thier outdoor time!

Corry was so excited about her big girl room the whole time it was under construction, but now that the time has come to move her into the room she's getting cold feet on us. She said she just wants to stay in her baby bed in her little girl room. Jimmy took down the queen sized bed out of her big girl room and we're going to move her baby bed into the big girl room sometime over the next couple days. Once she's used to sleeping in there we're going to convert the crib to a toddler bed for a coule weeks then we'll transition her to the full sized bed. I can't believe my little baby is so grown up. She's going to be 3 years old in less than 2 months. How is that possible????

Wedding Update

We had a busy week last week with all the wedding events - family started arriving on Sunday, March 30 to help get ready for everything. We had the bachelorette party which started at a Sushi Bar in Highland Village and ended at Howl at the Moon. Good times were had by most who attended, some don't remember if it was fun or not! Friday morning was a bridesmaids luncheon & personal shower. Friday evening the rehearsal & rehearsal dinner which was held at Mom and Dad's clubhouse....we had singing, dancing, & Pappasitos catered. Saturday was perfect weather for the big wedding day. The wedding was at the United Methodist church here in The Woodlands and the reception was downtown at Vic & Anthony's.

I think my most memorable event from the wedding was at the rehearsal at the chapel when the wedding coordinator was giving us all our instructions. Corry was sitting on my lap and doesn't understand the concept of whispering. She pulled out the top of my dress, looked down and asked "Do you have a penis in there?" I'm not sure why she chose that moment to ask that question. The only time we ever use that word is if she & Drew are in the tub together and she asks what that is. I was so mortified, but the other bridesmaids got a chuckle out of it.

Tonight our bunko group threw a surprise baby shower for Deachi & Max. Mr. Max got a lot of cute things. As soon as we brought all the gift bags into the house Calyn asked if she could open Max's presents. So when I left Calyn was doing just that and oooohing and ahhhhing over all his new clothes. She's so cute.

I'll try to post pictures from the wedding at some point! It was great seeing all the out of town family! Looking forward to seeing the Harris families in June & the Bullard families in July!

New Title

Yesterday Corry told me that I was the best Mommy in the whole world. Maybe it was an April Fool's joke, but I thought I should write it down so I can show it to her in another 10 years or so when she's telling me that she hates my guts, or that she thinks I'm so stupid.
