A gorgeous last day of February

We have had beautiful weather today - in the 60s somewhere, and completely clear blue skies. I did some yardwork this morning & then Jimmy took off to play golf with the guys. The kids & I picked up Arby's & had a picnic in the backyard. I took advantage of the beautiful whether & snapped several pictures.

We'll start out with the animals:

These two are seen together quite often - they are becoming great friends!
We went to Build A Bear on Saturday and now Corry has a new kitty named Katlyn

Buzzards

I HATE these things! The first time they congregated at our house there were a dozen or so lined up on our fence. Another time they were lining our rooftop. This morning there was one lone buzzard hanging on the fence staring into the backyard. Yeesh! I didn't have time to change out lenses, and I certainly didn't want to get too close to this dude, but you get the picture.

He took off when Meghan & Mocha realized he was on the fence.  He will not be missed!

The princess & the monster

The other day Corry was sitting on my lap, stoking my hair, and singing to me "A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes."  What a little sweetheart - then Drew walks into the room and says "Hi, Poo Poo Pee Pee Dump."  How is it that these 2 people are at opposite ends of the personality spectrum?  Oh well - keeps life interesting!

Drew is really into counting & numbers these days.  Anywhere we go he's counting whatever it is he can find to count.  He does great until he gets to 14.  For some reason he thinks that "secondteen" comes after 14.  We've told him over & over that secondteen is not a number, but he gets on a roll & that's what comes out every time.  I'm sure he'll get it eventually!

Corry is becoming quite the disciplinarian when it comes to Drew.  The other day he was aggrevating her.  Her method of retaliation these days is to pinch his cheeks.  So when he started getting on her nerves she controlled herself & said to him "Drew, do you want me to pinch you on the cheeks?"  He ignored her.  So she asked again, "Drew, Yes or No, do you want me to pinch you on the cheeks?"  He said "No."  So she asked him to stop doing whatever it was so she wouldn't have to pinch his cheeks.  It actually worked and they started playing nicely together again.  I never had to intervene.

Drew fell off the swing while trying to swing on his tummy & scratched up his face - click on the picture to view larger & you can see the scratches more!

Fat

I can't believe I forgot to post about my dear, sweet, brutally honest, little 4 year old niece, Miss Calyn.  Calyn went to the veterinarian's office with us on Saturday morning.  On the exam table they had a mold of fat and information about how the fat is really harmful for your pets.

The kids were enjoying poking the fat.  Calyn asked what it was.  We told her it was fat and that is what Meghan has too much of (Meghan is a smaller dog than Maddie, yet weighs 6lbs more).  Calyn asked why Meghan was too fat.  We told her it was because Meghan eats too many snacks and too much junk food, and when you do that you end up with too much fat.

She then replied "So is that what you and Uncle Jimmy have too?"   I told her yes and she said "My grandma Ois has that too."

I thought it was weird that Lois got singled out of all the family members, but Lois later told us that the night before Calyn was sitting on her lap and asked her if she had a baby in her tummy.  Lois told her no, that it was fat from eating too many snacks.

I don't know if my self esteem is going to be able to take much more of the attacks from the preschoolers!  Sure does make for some laughs though!  I'm off to have some more cookies & ice cream.

Another busy weekend!

Where do the weekends go?  We had another busy one - Friday night was our usual family gathering for dinner & drinks.  Drew decided to go home with Grandma Connie & have a sleepover with her.  Calyn stayed with us and had a sleepover with Corry.  Saturday we took all 3 dogs and all 3 kids to the vet.  That was chaos (and quite costly) but we're in good shape on heartworm preventative & wellness exams hopefully for another year.  Saturday night we celebrated Lois's #60 at Matt & Deachi's house (see Deachi's blog for pictures).  Today we celebrated our nephew, Devin's 21st birthday.  I was worried Drew would be awful since it was right in the middle of naptime.  He started out cranky but ended up doing very well, other than not wanting to share Thomas, Annie, & Clarabel with Bryce.

Unfortunately I have only 3 pictures to share from the weekend.  Shame on me!

Jimmy finally tried out the pepper cooker that Auntie M & Uncle Gary had given us.  All I have to say is Jimmy will be fixing these babies a lot more often....so yummy!  I took a picture of them as he was putting them on the grill, but I never did get an after picture - they were gone the instant we got them to Matt & Deachi's house.  Half were stuffed with hamburger, onion, garlic, cream cheese, & cheddar, then wrapped in bacon & the other half were stuffed with bacon, onion, cream cheese & cheddar & wrapped in bacon.  YUMMY!  You can't really tell from the picture, but the pepper holder is in the shape of Oklahoma & in the middle has OSU.

Corry doesn't often take naps anymore.  If she does its generally on the weekend & she just crashes & burns somewhere.  She needed a nap on Saturday after a sleepover with Calyn (CRANKY!).  Before she fell asleep she got herself & Milo all dressed in their cheerleading uniforms.
And not to be left out - here's one of Drew.  Not great, but I couldn't get the dude to smile for anything.

Mocha Moe Dautrich

Mocha went for his first round of heartworm treatment on Tuesday.  He seems to be doing just fine.  We have to keep his activity to a minimum while he's going through treatment.  He is still just the sweetest boy!  We couldn't be happier having him as part of our family - and even better - he's using the doggie door all by himself now!  We're going to make it a little bigger because its a pretty tight squeeze for him, but at least he has the hang of it now.  Here are a few pictures I've taken of him that I think are pretty darn cute.

When I'm in the study on the computer Maddie always sleeps in her little dog bed next to the desk.  The other night I assumed it was her all curled up in there next to me, but when I looked over I realized it was the big boy!  So glad my camera was handy!

Just a little big for this dog bed!
Who is a handsome boy?
One of the kids had brough Ted down (an impulse buy from Daddy when Corry was a baby - she slept with Ted in her crib for ages).  Mocha thought Ted made a great snuggling partner for his evening nap.

Home Improvements, Superbowl, & misc

We've done a few minor home improvement projects over the last few weekends - we added some kitchen cabinet hardware - we also have bought a pot rack, but it hasn't made it up yet

Added new bathroom lights, towel bars, etc.
Mocha still practices a lot of patience...
Messy-faced, but happy Drew!
