The kids are on Spring Break this week, so I took a couple days off to hang with Mom & the kiddos. We decided to drive down to Houston through torrential downpours & lightning to take the kids to the museum. Mom had been hyping the Butterfly Exhibit & the girls were oh-so excited.
Not making it down to Houston much we weren't exactly sure where to park, so when we found a garage that was labled "zoo & museum parking" we pulled in. We should have driven half a block further to park in the museum parking garage which is actually ATTACHED to the museum, but oh well. We thought we'd hang out & wait for the rain to let up, but ultimately I ended up purchasing 3 small umbrellas that would fit into the diaper bag at the "pharmacy" in the building the parking garage we parked in was attached to. The idea was for the girls to share an umbrella, Mom & Max to share an umbrella, and Drew & I to share an umbrella. The girls & Drew & I worked out just as planned. Max insisted on holding the umbrella, which meant Mom had to stoop to 2 feet high to keep from getting wet. After her thighs started cramping she gave up, and decided to just get wet.
Since the big hype was on the butterfly exhibit, we headed there first. It did not disappoint. All kids LOVED the butterfly exhibit and expecially liked the part where you can walk through a section where butterflies actually land on you.
We also checked out the dinosaurs which Corry absolutely loved. She has a new obessesion with dinosaurs. That girl has a steal trap when it comes to things that interest her. She was giving all of us a lesson on the different kinds of dinosaurs and whether they were meat eaters or plan eaters.
Next we headed to the rare gem exhibit. As soon as we walked into the exhibit there was a big quarty/turquoisy mass - Calyn said "Look, a brain!" We got to go in the vault and see lots of jewelry - Corry saw a necklace, tiara, and earrings and said "I'm imagining myself wearing those!" Such a princess.
Throughout all the exhibits the kids were repeatedly asking to go back to the butterflies, so we hit that exhibit again before we left. We found a real live working beehive that we had missed in the beginning. Mom was explaining to them that the hundreds of busy bees were the servants to the one queen bee....that the queen bee doesn't work, she just sits around and makes sure everyone else is doing what they are supposed to be doing and the other bees do whatever she tells them to do. Mom said she would like to be a queen bee. Corry, very serious, said "I don't want to be a queen bee, I want to be a servant so I can help people and not boss people around." Calyn, replied with "yeah, me too." Hilarious. Later, at dinner I was filling Matt & Deachi in on that story, and Calyn said she doesn't want to be bossy. Corry looked at her and said "you're pretty bossy already." Just calling a spade a spade....
Unfortunately, neither Mom nor I took our cameras to the museum, so the only pictures I have are on my camera phone. I uploaded them to facebook, but I'm not sure how to upload them to here...so if you're a facebooker, check out the pics there!
All in all, a very fun day with very happy kids!
